Type of monitors and basic parameters
According to the technology used in production, the following groups of monitors are distinguished:

Based on cathode ray tube.
Liquid crystal.
Plasma (based on the plasma panel).
Projection (there are a screen and a video projector, which are separate or integrated into a single device case).
LED (LED = light-emitting diode - light emitting diode).
OLED (OLED = organic light-emitting diode - an organic light-emitting diode).
Virtual retinal (the image is created on the retina and as if hanging in the air in front of a person).
Laser (based on a laser panel).
Main settings:
View (determined by the aspect ratio of the image; the monitor can be standard (4: 3), widescreen (16: 9, 16:10), ultra-wide (21: 9); there are also rare ratios 5: 4 1: 1).
Resolution (in the classical sense, this is the number of points or pixels per unit area or unit of length, but the resolution of a display monitor usually means the size of the resulting image in pixels, for example, 1920x1080, 2560x1440).
Color depth - the number of bits for encoding one pixel (the monitor can be monochrome, 16-, 32-bit, and so on).
Pixel size (pixel is the smallest element of the display matrix).
The refresh rate of the screen (the higher the value, the more comfortable the eyes when working).
Important parameters when choosing a monitor
Size characterized by a diagonal screen length. Length is traditionally measured in inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Today, a size of less than 17 inches is considered insufficient for the convenience of the user, 20-24 inches is the optimal size for different work and launch of video games, more than 24 inches is oversize, it requires more distance from the monitor than what is created when sitting behind an ordinary worker table, good for watching videos.
The advantages of large screens:
It is convenient to work with maps, diagrams, drawings.
More information is available at the same time without switching windows.
Comfortably run video games.
Aspect ratio display. The most common today widescreen monitors with ratios 16:10, 16: 9.
Screen resolution. The higher the values, the more detailed the image will be. It is especially necessary to pay attention to this parameter when buying a large monitor.
Brightness. Measured in candels per square meter (cd / sq. Per meter). Comfortable for the eyes when working with text is considered to be a brightness of at least 80 cd / sq. per meter, for video - the higher the better. Brightness can be adjusted, so it’s best to buy a monitor with high parameter values.
Contrast. This is the ratio of the brightness of white to the brightness of black. For a home monitor, the contrast should be at least 500: 1, and preferably 1000: 1 or higher.
The refresh rate of the screen (usually 60 Hz). The higher the frequency, the smoother and more dynamic the image will be.
Response time. This is the minimum amount of time the pixel needs to change the brightness. Measured in milliseconds (ms). The smaller this number, the faster the pixel is converted and the less likely the image is visible distortion. This is especially important for moving objects. The response time should not exceed 8 ms.
Viewing angles. Good values: 160 horizontally and 160 vertically.
The color gamut, the uniformity of illumination - the parameters, the quality of which can be accurately assessed only by special tests.
Optional: 3D support, curved screen (wider viewing angle), stand height adjustment, rotation to portrait mode, screen surface (matte, glossy).
